Quillan Salkilld delivered one of the biggest performances of his UFC career by defeating Mateusz Gamrot in the main event of UFC Vegas 120.

The Australian lightweight secured a first-round rear-naked choke submission at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Salkilld entered the fight with an impressive winning streak and faced a highly experienced opponent known for his wrestling and grappling.

Instead of simply trying to keep the fight standing, Salkilld showed that he could compete in the grappling exchanges as well.

A breakthrough performance

The victory is significant because Gamrot is one of the most experienced fighters in the lightweight division.

Salkilld first hurt Gamrot with a left hook before surviving the veteran’s wrestling pressure.

He then reversed the situation, secured his own takedown and eventually took Gamrot’s back before finishing the fight.

The win was reported as Salkilld’s sixth consecutive UFC victory.

Lightweight division gets another contender

The lightweight division is one of the deepest in MMA.

A convincing victory over an established contender can move a fighter rapidly toward the top of the rankings.

Salkilld now has a major opportunity to establish himself as a genuine title contender.

The next fight will be important, but after his performance in Las Vegas, the Australian fighter has made it clear that he deserves serious attention.
